DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSES

Lorien Kennels offers several levels of obedience classes from puppy kindergarten to advanced obedience utilizing both traditional and clicker training methods.

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN: Open to all puppies 10 weeks to 16 weeks of age. This class is a 4 week basic socialization and manners class designed to build confidence and social skills in young puppies Course content will include instruction on owner/puppy bonding, attention, housebreaking, lead breaking, introduction to stairs and simple obstacles and manners.

FAMILY PET/BEGINNER'S OBEDIENCE: Open to all dogs 4 months of age and older. YES, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. There is no upper age limit for this class. This is a 6-8 week class. Course content includes instruction on the basic obedience commands of Heel, Sit, Down, Stay and Come. Attention will be stressed. This class is designed for basic control of the family pet and is for persons not interested in competitive obedience.

INTERMEDIATE: A slightly more advanced class for those interested in preparing for competitive obedience or simply reinforcing and proofing the exercises learned in the beginners class. This is an 8 week class for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older. There is no upper age limit. Course content is instruction on the bais obedience commands of Heel, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Finish, and Stand for Exam and transition to off-lead control. Emphasis will be on attention and steadiness under distraction.

ADVANCED: A class designed only for those interested in competitive obedience. Successful completion of the Intermediate class is a pre-requisite. Course content includes instruction on off-lead heeling directed jumping, retrieving and the down on recall.

CLICKER TRAINING: This new "old method" of dog training has found new and growing popularity among serious dog trainers. It is based on ALL POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT and is realizing great results with all types of dogs.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN: This 6 week class prepares dogs and handlers for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test. The course also includes the skills necessary for your dog to test to become a Certified Therapy Dog.

RESIDENTIAL TRAINING: No time? Limited physical abilities? Residential training is for individuals who are unable, due to time contraints or physical limitations, to train their own dogs. Dogs enter the kennel and remain as residents for 2-8 weeks depending on the level of training desired and the dog's trainability. Cost includes daily rate for boarding plus additional fees for training.

 

 

Our Policies: All dogs coming into Lorien Kennels for training must present proof of current vaccinations for rabies, canine distemper, leptospirosis, hepatitis, parvo, para-influenza and bordatella (kennel cough). In addition, all dogs must be in heartworm negative status and be on preventive. All cats coming into the kennel must present proof of current vaccinations for rabies, feline distemper, calici virus, rhino-tracheitis, and feline leukemia.

Charges for services will be at the published and contracted price, agreed upon in advance and paid in full at time of class registration unless other arrangements were made in advance as part of the services or sales contract. Payment can be either by check, money order, or cash.
